Secrets To Success

Posted: November 13, 2012 in Uncategorized

Today i just wanna share a video. This guy is like da illest motivational speaker in the world. I love his speeches but this is one of his more famous ones. So to motivate you guys i wanna share this video! ENJOY! -KoN

Saw skyfall this weekend and i couldn’t help but notice a comparison. Building an album is alot like making a movie (at least a good album). No matter how good an album though (at least nowadays) it still doesn’t sell. I look at the Box Office numbers and they still pulling billions out of movies! People say the internet ruined the music industry but shouldn’t it ruin the movie industry also? I couldn’t see what the difference was between the 2 that separated them. What made movies greater than music, when a movie can’t be complete without music. So it hit me! THE EXPERIENCE!! I recently went and bought Kendrick Lamar’s new album, and this weekend i saw 007′s newest installment. The whole going to the movies getting in front of that huge screen, surround sound, popcorn, you can’t get that at home (kind of but its not the same). Now music; that experience of getting the physical copy of an album is gone! I think to bring our industry back we have to give our fans more of an experience; lets give good live shows, a well constructed album, put more effort into the album art, maybe a little something extra on it for the fans. We have to create an experience that they can’t get at home, nor online. I rather hear most of these artist’s mixtapes, then go live and see them out of breath, running, pulling there pants up the whole night. We need to bring back that experience or maybe add on to it and just make that experience better. Come on you lazy fucks lets get to it! -KoN

Let me give you a little background about K-Oz before i go into this. Government name Ralf Martinez aka K-Oz, 26, born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey, unsigned emcee. K-oz, who is also one of millions of Tourette’s Syndrome sufferers, found hip hop at a young age and has found it to be therapeutic for him and his situation. Father. Husband. DREAMER!  Now this mixtape is the shit especially if you miss that 90s sound and love real hip hop. Most people call this type of music outdated and old, while i can agree with some of them K Oz is still a breath of fresh air! Punchlines, ill skemes, and a style of rhyming you don’t hear nowadays. My favorite song on here is a tie between Undisputed, and No Hook. He stuck to the concept of his mixtape from beginning to end, even adding in a true story of his syndrome in Still Alive. Great mixtape could have been an album in my opinion. Only thing i had a problem with was some of his hooks are so AZ, Nas like, and i just wish he can update, well not update but elevate dat into something newer and true to him. Alot of EMCEEs are scared to go out of the original elements because they feel it won’t be real hip hop. Staying true to yourself is real hip hop! So do whatever the fuck you want as long as its from the heart, thats why i can’t knock him for doing this mixtape the way he did ! But that would be my only suggestion, other than dat great fuckin mixtape. I actually know K-Oz and look foward to working with him in the near future. We’re from the same city too i love hearing good quality hip hop from home. Big up K Oz keep working bro hip hop forever! -KoN

Good Kid: M.A.A.D City [Deluxe Edition]

This is my actual copy i bought da day it came out! So i’d like to think i had something to do with him hitting 242,000 his first week =]. Kendrick Lamar i feel is one of da best hip hop artist of our time. This album had an ill concept around it i totally understood it right away. They say kendrick is complex but his style just seems that way. His songs are still very understandable; i heard some artist that go way more off da wall then he does. I love the skits! Those are lost these days or they’ll do it so fukin wrong its annoying; he matches it wit da album concept perfect. “Backseat Freestyle” is one of my favs even though i feel like he bites kanye style O.DEE in dat song still! This album is well put together though i just don’t like that drake feature, dat didn’t make any sense to me. He could of kept this whole album in house and it would of probably been better (as 50 cent use to do). I think Section 80 was still better than this album and probably for that reason, it was all in house label work. Overall this is a dope fukin album i like kendrick’s shit, i just hope the commercial world doesn’t fully consume him and he stays true to his original art. In this day and age how downloading is i don’t think its completely bad i just think your shit has to be extremely ill if i’m going to spend money on it. I see it as pay for the music you want to hear more of. Wack niggaz get no money we won’t hear nothing from them simple! Good Kid, M.A.A.D City got my $15. I’m just tryin to keep real hip hop alive. -KoN
